Sunrise
 
On the morning this flute began her life I was up very early. This has always been my favourite time of the day. When I started my daily ritual of yoga and meditation the sky was still dark. When I opened my eyes after meditating I was greeted with the most beautiful sunrise. Pink and orange light was everywhere. There were few only a few clouds in the sky and they were glowing with the same colours. I didn’t move from my seated position on the floor as I gazed out the window. As the sun rose higher in the sky the snow covered ground began to sparkle like diamonds and the sky slowly changed to a clear, bright soothing blue. I felt so wonderful to have been greeted with such beauty on that morning and I was grateful to be alive and exactly where I was. I though about the day ahead of me and wondered how the flutes I was going to craft that day would sound. I decided then that the first flute I would make that  day would be inspired by what I had just witnessed and her intent would be to shine brightly in this world where ever she may go. In honour of that glorious morning I named her Sunrise.
 
She is in the key of B4 at 432Hz and is 39cm (15 1/2”). She is made of Natural colour bamboo and I use a combination of burning, sanding and polishing which gives each of these flutes a wonderful smooth finish and unique colour patterns. She has 6 finger holes and is tuned to a pentatonic minor scale.The Totem is made from Black Locust and it is held in place with leather lace from North American Whitetail Deer hide. Finger hole #4 is also covered with the same lace. This can be removed or replaced at any time to change this flute between a 5 hole and 6 hole configuration.The blue lashing is of waxed cotton whipping cord and the natural colour lashing is artificial sinew.
