Running with Coyote

Running with Coyote

The day I began this flute I was in such a playful mood. I sat in the morning sun and thought of my time living in California, where i first learned to make these flutes. So often a night I would see Coyotes running around carefree with their beautiful mischievous smiles. I love these beings They seem to never take anything too seriously but have such incredible intelligence and Wisdom. They are known as tricksters but also great teachers and crafting of this flute was very much inspired by these traits. And this flute actually began acting just like Coyote. There were many tricks and laughs on my journey with this flute and I learned a few things as well. Important things.  The songs she plays feel wild and joyful. I hope that all who hear and play this flute will find their own playfulness and joy. In honour of the beauty of these beings , I name this Running with Coyote.

She is in the key of F# tuned to 432Hz and is 53cm (21”). Made from natural mottled bamboo. I use a combination of burning, sanding and polishing which gives each of these flutes a wonderful smooth finish and unique colour pattern. The stone inlays are Black Coal from West Virginia, and Malachite. These represent the grounding and vibrant qualities of Mother Earth. The block is made of Beech that I foraged from a forest near by in Oxfordshire UK and is held in place with leather lace from North American Whitetail Deer hide and has Turquoise  eyes. The lashing around the body of the flute is artificial sinew and red and blue cotton twine. The feathers are Buzzard and Barn Owl which as always were found while I am walking with Mother Nature or gifted to me by friends.
