Light in Winter Darkness
As the days shorten and the light fades from the land, we are reminded of winter’s return— the darkness inviting reflection. This handcrafted Native American style flute was born in this season, and for me its a time to look back over the past year and consider all that has been gathered. How did the ideas and dreams that sparked last winter grow? Did the seeds I planted in spring take root and flourish? Have my hopes come to fruition, and does my harvest now nourish me? This time of year also calls me to acknowledge what did not unfold as I wished, and to gently consider what I am ready to release. These dark months of contemplation can be challenging, yet it is in this fertile silence that new dreams emerge—fragile at first, then forming into the seeds that will one day be planted. With care, love, and patience, these dreams may be carried into reality. My hope is that this flute offers comfort, safety, and clarity through the storm, guiding the way toward new visions. In honour of this beautiful journey, I name this flute,
Light ih Winter Darkness
She is in the key of F# tuned to 432Hz and is made of Black bamboo. The stone inlays on the body are of Malachite for protection and to remind us of the vibrancy life even during the times of darkness which lives in the heart. The Fox totem is to help us remain playful. He is made of Burly Maple foraged by my Dad in Upstate New York and has eyes of Turquoise to remind us of clear blue sky. The feathers are from the Tawny Owl, The great messenger to help us learn the wisdom of our ancestors.
