I woke up with the intention, inspiration and name of this flute before I even chose the piece of cane to create her from. The sun was shining and the day was already warm early in the morning. I moved my workshop outside and sat with my bare feet upon the grass connecting with Mother Earth as I began work on this flute. As I created her I was feeling and remembering all the special moments so far I have had connecting and learning from Pachamama. So many wonderful moments and each one of those moments is now part of this flute. As her voice came to life and we played our first song together I could feel such a deep resonance with the heartbeat of the Earth. This flute has such a warm and comforting quality to her. I hope that those who play her will truly feel and connect with Mother Earth and that the songs played will spread an understanding of just how blessed we are to be part of this world. In honour and great gratitude for all that Mother Earth teaches us the beauty that is all around us I name this flute Earth Blessings
She is in the key of F tuned to 432Hz and is 56cm (22”). Made from natural mottled bamboo. I use a combination of burning, sanding and polishing which gives each of these flutes a wonderful smooth finish and unique colour pattern. The stone inlays are Black Coal from West Virginia, and Malachite. These represent the grounding and vibrant qualities of Mother Earth. The block is made of Beech that I foraged from a forest near by in Oxfordshire UK and is held in place with leather lace from North American Whitetail Deer hide and has Turquoise eyes. The lashing around the body of the flute is artificial sinew and red and blue cotton twine. The feathers are Buzzard and Barn Owl which as always were found while I am walking with Mother Nature or gifted to me by friends.
