This flute was created in deep winter in England. The air is damp and the skies are often grey but when blue sky comes it is such a glorious vision. The whole landscape and every creature in it seems to light up and celebrate. This flute was created during 2 days of incredible warm winter sunshine. As I sat outside crafting this flute I was watching a story unfold in the sky. This story was told by big white clouds formed into fantastic beings as they floated by with a backdrop of deep blue sky. Each cloud telling their part of the story. The white pearl inlay in the body of this flute represents those clouds and the Turquoise inlay represents the magnificent blue sky shining all around. When this flute was completed I played a song of thanks to all the characters in the cloud story and blue sky. They all brought me such happiness and joy over those 2 days. In honour that beauty I have named this flute Blue Sky White Clouds
She is in the key of E4 at 432Hz and is 57cm (22.5”). She is made of natural bamboo and I use a combination of burning, sanding and polishing which gives each of these flutes a wonderful smooth finish and unique colour pattern. The stone settings in the body are of Pearl and Turquoise. She has 6 finger holes and is tuned to a pentatonic minor scale. The Totem is made from Cherry and has eyes of Turquoise. The wood was collected in the forest by my father to make his own beautiful objects. It is held in place with leather lace from North American Whitetail Deer hide. Finger hole #4 is also covered with the same lace. This can be slid up and down at any time to change this flute between a 5 hole and 6 hole configuration. The blue lashing is of waxed cotton whipping cord and the natural colour lashing at either end is artificial sinew. The feathers are tied on with leather cord and they are from Red Kite and Crow which as always were found while I am out with Mother Nature..
